1. Cawl

This traditional Welsh delicacy is best enjoyed on a cold day with a fresh crusty roll of bread. It’s a broth of local vegetables and meat (usually Corned Beef, but you can also use Lamb or Beef chunks).


2. Welsh Rarebit

This lovely Welsh food is often mispronounced as ‘Welsh Rabbit’ and so many people are shocked to find out that meat isn’t actually an ingredient at all in this dish.


It’s what many people describe as a luxurious cheese on toast. The main ingredients used are bread, cheese, flour, beer and normally egg. Many people like to add a sprinkling of Paprika to warm up the dish.


3. Bara Brith

A slice of warm Bara Brith is the perfect accompaniment to a cup of tea or coffee. This traditional style fruit cake can be enjoyed with or without butter.


4. Welsh Cakes

Although Welsh Cakes can be enjoyed warm or cold, they’re best served fresh off the bakestone. Bakestones are a traditional tool used to cook Welsh cakes, it looks like a flat frying pan made of thick cast iron.


5. Glamorgan Sausage

Don’t let the name fool you - these sausages are perfect for vegetarians! This Welsh treat is flavoured cheese sausages made with leeks, crumbly white local cheese, mustard, breadcrumbs, and some herbs and seasonings.


6. Laverbread

Laverbread is a bit like Marmite, you’re either a lover or a hater. It’s a stunning seaweed delicacy that often accompanies a full Welsh breakfast.


7. Crempog

Translated to English, Crempog means ‘pancake’. However, these mouthwatering Welsh pancakes are a little different. They tend to be much thicker versions of the simple pancake and made with buttermilk.


8. Cockles

The Welsh cockles are best enjoyed straight from the market or fisherman with a healthy dose of vinegar!


9. Bara Ceirch

This delicious Welsh recipe is actually not as widely known as its cousins Bara Brith and Crempog. A Bara Ceirch is best described as round savoury oat cakes.


Although not as widely known and popular, they are not to be sniffed at and taste amazing accompanied by some local Welsh cheese.


10. Homemade Leek and Potato Soup

This hearty dish is the perfect soup for a cold and windy evening. It tastes best when made with fresh, locally grown ingredients. It’s the type of dish that warms you from the inside out!
